Kelowna Falcons

A Sweet Sweep

Sunday the Falcons wrapped up the six-game road trip with a doubleheader sweep of the Walla Walla Sweets with victories of 5-1 and 5-0.

In game 1, starter Nick Woodcock was back to his old self completely fooling the Sweet hitters, throwing 4.2 innings, striking out four giving his offence a chance to win. Jacob Greenan claimed the victory in a relief appearance throwing 0.2 of an inning, fanning one.

The Falcons offence finally broke through with some help in the top of the sixth scoring all five of the runs needed to win. They sent 11-men to the plate in that inning but only recorded one hit, which was a two-run single from Luke Solis. The rest of the hitters either walked or were hit by a pitch.

In game 2, the offence found a more traditional way to win, jumping on the Sweets early with what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the first inning. Solis again came through, this time with a two-out single to bring home Jake Steels who led off with a hit.

From there the pitching staff took over, giving up just one-hit the entire game. Casey Spencer started and threw 4.2 innings striking out five. Then Sam Hasegawa threw a perfect inning fanning one and picked up the win. Dylan Berry came on to slam the door for the last 1.1 innings and struck out two.

Steels had a big game which included clubbing his second homer of the year and finished with a pair of hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. CJ Richmond launched his fourth homerun of summer, a solo shot to lead off the sixth inning and Konnor Palmeira recorded another RBI in the seventh and now has seven in nine games.

Tuesday night the Falcons (10-12) return to Elks Stadium to welcome the Wenatchee Applesox (12-15) to town. It’s also Bark at the Park Night, so bring down your dogs to enjoy the game with you. Reserve your tickets online HERE.
