Kelowna Falcons

Not So Sweet

On two separate occasions the Kelowna Falcons held a lead on Sunday night, but both times let it slip through their fingers falling 6-4 to the Walla Walla Sweets in the series finale.

Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second the Falcons offence came alive on back-to-back-to-back doubles. Shea Thomas started the inning with one, before getting knocked home by Jeter Ybarra. On the next pitch, Jaden Parsons also doubled driving in Ybarra. Later in the inning Parsons then scored the third run on a Michael Montrezza field’s choice.

The Sweets tied the game at three in the top of the fifth inning off starter Trent Merrill. However, the Falcons quickly regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Thomas scored on a wild pitch. He collected his second double of the game earlier in the inning.

In the top of the seventh reliever Dylan Berry coughed up the lead allowing a three-run homer to Sweets’ centerfielder Josh Williams and the offence never recovered.

The Falcons will have Monday off before opening a three-game series with the Edmonton Riverhawks in their first ever trip to Elks Stadium on Tuesday. Game two of the series is Wednesday when the first 200 fans receive a free T-Shirt courtesy of Tim Hortons and then Thursday is a “nooner.” The first pitch is at 12:35pm as the Falcons encourage business owners to treat their clients to an afternoon tilt. Tickets can be purchased for all three games at the front gate of Elks Stadium.
