Falcons Entertain Pickles
The Falcons will host the Portland Pickles this weekend beginning Friday night at Elks Stadium.
Both teams are coming off the short West Coast League All-Star break, which for the Falcons turned out to be one day. They hosted and fell to the Kamloops NorthPaws on Tuesday night, the All-Star Game in Bellingham was on Wednesday, the only day off, and then travelled to Kamloops on Thursday to compete in an exhibition game.
Following Tuesday’s loss, the Falcons (5-5) are half a game back of first place in the North Division in the second half.
Friday night is Strikeout Cancer Night as fans are invited to join both teams and express support for Cancer Awareness. In the top of the fifth inning the game will pause with both teams meeting on the pitcher’s mound to honour the person in their life affected by cancer.
The Pickles meanwhile, come to Kelowna as one of the WCL’s best teams. They are 9-2 in the second half and 26-10 overall coming off a loss to the Ridgefield Raptors on Thursday night in Portland. They will make the close to nine-hour bus ride to Kelowna on Friday, play the weekend then turnaround and head back home immediately following Sunday’s series finale.
Games and wins are starting to become more and more important each day with time starting to tick away on the 2024 season. Including Friday night, the Falcons have only 10 home games remaining, hosting the Pickles, the Port Angeles Lefties, the Wenatchee Applesox and a single game against the NorthPaws on August 3rd.
Saturday night is RCMP Appreciation Night at the ballpark with the players wearing speciality police jerseys. Get to the ballpark early to watch the RCMP helicopter land in centerfield at roughly 6:15pm carrying a special furry guest that will deliver the official game ball.
