Falcons outlast Lefties

The Kelowna Falcons rallied late to earn a 7-5 road win over the Port Angeles Lefties on Friday.

The Lefties would strike early, opening up a 2-0 lead in the first inning following an RBI double from third baseman Derek Gifford and a wild pitch thrown by Kelowna Starter Nolan Patterson.

Kelowna would get on the board in the fifth, scoring a run on a RBI double from centre fielder Jacob Devenny to cut the Lefties lead to 2-1.

The Falcons would add on in the sixth, taking their first lead of the game on an RBI single from second baseman Eddie Fines, following a walk that tied the game.

However, Port Angeles would answer back in the bottom half, tying the game at 4-4 on back-to-back singles by Trent Jackson and Barrett Rose.

But the late inning heroics from the Falcons would keep coming, as they struck for three more runs in the seventh, two coming by-way of an RBI double by third baseman Sam Flores and one via a wild pitch.

The Lefties would add one more in the bottom of the seventh. However, that is close as they would get as the bullpen trio of Patrick Barnum, Blaine Hardy and Thrasher Steed should shut the door and secured the 7-5 win for Kelowna.

Barnum would earn the win, throwing 0.1 innings in relief, while Steed recorded his third save of the season.

Flores finished as the top offensive performer for the Falcons, recording two hits, three walks and two RBI.

The win brings Kelowna’s record to 10-8 on the season.

Kelowna and Port Angeles will play game two of their three game set on Saturday night.
