Sunday night was another outstanding finish at Elks Stadium as Trey Duffield walked it off with a base loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to propel the Falcons to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Yakima Pippins.
After both teams traded single runs in the first inning, the Falcons offence took the lead in the third with a three-run inning. Aidan Kuni had the biggest hit of the inning, a two-run single to score Sam Flores and Jacob Devenny. Later in the inning Brecken Menuet brought home Kuni on a sac fly.
The Pippins chipped away and tied the score with single runs in the fifth, seventh and top of the ninth, setting the table for Duffield in the bottom half of the inning.
Devenny led off reaching second on a throwing error. After Flores was intentionally walked, Kuni laid down a beautiful bunt that the pitcher mishandled loading the bases. On the very pitch, Duffield singled to left field to bring home Devenny with the winning run and securing a Falcons series sweep.
Ethan Coronel recorded the win in relief as he and Gavyn Jones combined for 10 strikeouts.
Monday night the Falcons will welcome the Kamloops NorthPaws for a special Canada Day game with the Falcons wearing specialty jerseys. The first pitch is set for 6:35pm with Gus McKay on the bump. Fans can purchase tickets in advance online HERE.
