Bullpen Struggles in Loss

The Falcons jumped out to a 6-0 lead but couldn’t hold on as the visiting Edmonton Riverhawks chipped away and eventually recorded a 7-6 win in 10 innings on Thursday night.

During the annual Fire Fighters Night, the Falcons tallied three runs in the second inning followed by three more in the third to extend an early lead to 6-0.  Bracken Menuet collected a two-run double, and Rapheal Smeenk had a sac fly in the second before Trey Duffield knocked in Cameron Sewell and Aidan Kuni with a double of his own followed by another sac fly off the bat of Caden Mitchell in the third.

After that the bats were quiet against the Riverhawks bullpen.

Falcons starter Zach Sutton was outstanding in his four innings of work of shutout baseball giving up one hit and he struck out two.  The bullpen however couldn’t keep the lead.

The visitors scored their first two runs in the sixth, then another in the seventh, before scoring three times in the top of the ninth to tie it.  Then in the 10th they tallied one more run off reliever Sebastian Castro for the eventual game winner.

The setback snaps the Falcons two-game winning streak.  The club now hits the road for six games making stops in Port Angeles and Wenatchee before returning to Elks Stadium on June 28th when they host the Yakima Pippins for a weekend series. Watch the Falcons on the road HERE.
