Comeback Falls Short

If you like offence, Friday night the Falcons and Lefties put on a hitting display while a Falcons comeback just came up short falling 13-11.
The teams combined for 34 hits and 24 runs and had plenty of exciting moments in game one of this weekend set at Elks Stadium.
Falcons’ first baseman Matthew Pena (pictured) opened the scoring as he smashed his third homer of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning. That homerun however seemingly woke up the Lefties because in their next at bats they scored five runs to take the lead, one they would never relinquish.
They added six more runs in the eighth, then tallied two more in the ninth which proved to be very important runs. The Falcons scored one run in the sixth on an RBI sac-fly by Jacob Campagna, then tallied another in the bottom half of the eighth on a Caden Mitchell RBI single.
In the ninth, after the Lefties scored two more runs for insurance, the Falcons started to get hot. They would score seven runs in the inning to make the game very interesting at the end, but ultimately it was those two extra runs the Lefties scored in the top of the inning that became the difference.
Offensively the Falcons collected 13 hits led by Ryan Degroot’s three and he had two RBIs. Pena, Mitchell and Eddie Fines each had two hits and Pena drove in three.
Saturday night the Falcons and Lefties meet again at Elks Stadium with Carter Boone getting the start at 6:35pm. It’s also 80’s Night, so join us at the park as we turn back the clock to big hair and baggy pants! Tickets can be pre-purchased HERE.
