Extra Inning Magic

Wednesday night saw the Falcons use some extra inning magic to beat the Nanaimo NightOwls 5-4 in 11 innings, coming back from being down 4-1.

The NightOwls got to Falcons starter Nolan Larsen early scoring three times in the bottom of the first inning.   The Falcons got one of those runs back in the top of the third after loading the bases before a balk was called on the pitcher scoring Drew Stevens from third base.

Down 4-1 heading into the sixth the Falcons scored twice. Brecken Menuet brought home Trey Duffield on a fielder’s choice, then Eddie Fines knocked in Dante Vachini with a one-out single.

The next inning the Falcons tied the score on another fielder’s choice when Nate Gray Jr came across on a Sam Flores double play ball.

The score stayed that way until the 11th. The visitors loaded the bases and with one-out Nate Castellon hit into another fielder’s choice to score Trevor Wilson with the eventual game winning run.  In the bottom of the inning the NightOwls put runners at first and second with two-out but Sebastian Castro struck out the final batter to record the save for winning pitcher Carter Boone.

Thursday the Falcons will use a travel day as their nine-game road trip continues.  They will open a three-game weekend series in Cowlitz on Friday against the Black Bears.
