Falcons Visit Hawks
What do the Falcons and the Stanley Cup have in common? Both will be in Edmonton this week!
After an extended and very rare break of four days off the Falcons travel to Edmonton to the meet the Riverhawks in a three-game series beginning on Monday. This trip represents the first road trip of the season as they become very familiar with the Riverhawks, playing three this week in Edmonton before they come to Kelowna on June 18th.
The Falcons are coming off a series loss to the Victoria Harbourcats while the Riverhawks have won their last two beating the Nanaimo NightOwls. Monday’s game is the only tilt on the West Coast League schedule.
Lefty Jackson Mayo takes the ball making his second start of the summer. The Riverhawks will counter with righty Tate Dearing. He also makes his second start after earning a no-decision on June 3rd at Ridgefield. He threw 3.2 innings, allowing a run on four hits and struck out five. Mayo on the other hand suffered the loss in his outing, also on June 3rd allowing four runs on just one hit but walked five in a game that the Falcons’ staff walked 12 in total.
The Riverhawks have the second highest team batting average thus far hitting .296 with UBC’s Trent Lenihan leading the WCL with 15 hits.
This is just the second trip to Edmonton for the Falcons all-time since the Riverhawks began play last year. They took two of three last season and are looking to have similar success this trip.
Some reinforcements arrived during the break and will allow head coach Doug Noce some more options on the mound and at the plate. The first pitch on Monday is scheduled for 6:05pm PST in Edmonton.
