Falcons Visit Lefties
For the second time this season the Falcons hit the road as they open a three-game series in Port Angeles against the struggling Lefties on Friday night.
This week the Falcons claimed their first series win, beating the Edmonton Riverhawks at Elks Stadium in two of the three games and nearly swept the series, falling in extra innings last night. The bats hammered out 27 hits and scored 24 runs against the Riverhawks during the series and their starting pitchers saw success on the mound.
This is an important series in Port Angeles as the Falcons try to get back into the trick of things in the North Division standings. Currently the club is 5.5 games back of the front running Wenatchee Applesox, a team they will face after the Lefties, part of this six-game road trip.
The Lefties are ripe for the picking losing their last seven games. They haven’t won since June 11 and have been outscored 22-10 in their last two games. As a team they are hitting .233 compared to the Falcons offence at .242, but are heating up.
On the bump, the Lefties pitching staff hasn’t been good so far this season with the second highest team ERA in the West Coast League at 5.65. Righty John Vaara will start for them on Friday night, making his fourth appearance. He’s allowed three runs and struck out nine in nine innings of work.
JJ Luna with throw for the Falcons and hasn’t allowed a run in seven innings. He is 1-1 with three strikeouts, making his fourth appearance of the summer.
After three games in Port Angeles, the Falcons will visit Wenatchee, then return to Elks Stadium on Friday June 28th to welcome the Yakima Pippins for a weekend series.
