Playoff Atmosphere

In a game that had a playoff feel the Kelowna Falcons fell 3-2 to the Wenatchee Applesox on Friday night in a well-played game.

The Applesox got on the board first in the top of the second inning off starter Noah Zenkewich. However, the lead didn’t last long as the Falcons came right back in the bottom of the inning to tie it. Kyle Corso came up with a massive two-out single to score Konnor Palmeira who collected a base knock earlier in the inning.

In the third, the Sox struck for two more and that was it for Zenkewich who suffered the loss. He lasted three innings and struck out one.

The Falcons cut the lead to one in the sixth inning when Palmeira knocked in Raphael Smeenk who doubled to lead off the inning. Later, the Falcons had runners at second and third with one-out but couldn’t get the tying run across. Then in the ninth the Falcons once again had runners at second and third with one gone, but like the sixth, couldn’t find that timely hit to bring home the winning run.

With the loss the Falcons now know they will settle for the fourth seed in the North Division and will host the Bellingham Bells on Tuesday in game one of the West Coast League playoffs. Saturday night however, the Falcons host the Applesox again with the gates at Elks Stadium opening at 5:30pm and the first pitch set for 6:35pm.
