Season Closes

The Kelowna Falcons season came to a close on Wednesday night with a 5-3 loss in Bellingham in game 2 of the best of three playoff series. The Falcons have been eliminated from the West Coast League postseason.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning when Konner Palmeira knocked in Luke Solis. Believe it or not, it was the first Falcons playoff run since 2018.

Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as the Bells came right back in the home half of the inning when Cole Yoshida knocked home a pair of runs off starter Griffin Palfrey with a two-out single.

Without missing a beat, the Falcons offence came right back to score a pair runs of their own in the top of the fifth to regain the lead. Both Max Tremblay and Kyle Corso would eventually come around to score.

In the bottom of the inning the Bells would tie it again off Palfrey courtesy of a sac-fly. Then in the sixth they would score the eventual winning run when Daryl Ruiz belted a lead off homer. They added another solo homerun in the seventh for some insurance and the Falcons couldn’t battle back.

The Falcons roster was somewhat depleted following the regular season finale when five players had to leave and report to school. Jonas Salk, Trey Duffield and Raphael Smeenk were among the five players that left and were sorely missed in the playoffs against the Bells.

Despite the season ending, the Falcons organization is extremely proud of this past season and thank the billet families and incredible fans for supporting the team all year. Preparation has begun for the 2024 season with some exciting things on the horizon. Stay tuned.
