Sixth Inning Success
Tuesday night the Kelowna Falcons took another step closer to clinching the final playoff spot in the North Division with a 5-4 victory over the Kamloops NorthPaws.
The Falcons offence wasn’t overpowering, but did just enough to get the win, scoring all five runs in the sixth inning. Jonas Salk led off the inning with a double which was the only hit in the frame. The Falcons took advantage of walks, wild pitches, errors, stolen bases and a fielder’s choice to score five times.
The NorthPaws didn’t go away quietly after that. They scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 5-3, then added one more in the bottom of the ninth. With the winning run on base, Thrasher Steed was able to strikeout the final batter, recording his fifth save. Starter Griffin Palfrey recorded the win, throwing five innings, scattering five hits and struck out three.
Looking at the out of town scoreboard, the Nanaimo NightOwls lost on Tuesday night to help the Falcons efforts to secure the final playoff spot. The Falcons are now three-games up on the NightOwls with five games to play.
The Falcons host the NorthPaws tonight (Wednesday) at Elks Stadium at 6:35pm on Umpire Appreciation Night for KidSport. Without umpires we don’t have the game of baseball, so tonight join us to appreciate how valuable they are for the game and help raise some money for kids in our community. Gates open at 5:30pm.
Tickets can be reserved online HERE.
