Streak Snapped

In front of a capacity crowd at Elks Stadium on Wednesday night the Falcons fell behind early and couldn’t complete the comeback falling 11-8 to the Kamloops NorthPaws.

The visitors scored five runs in the first two innings off starter JJ Luna and held off a late surge by the Falcons, snapping their season high four-game winning streak.

The Falcons finally got on the board in the second inning giving the hometown fans something to cheer about.  Aidan Kuni knocked home Nate Castellon who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning cutting the lead to four.

In their next at bat however, the NorthPaws scored two more runs extending their lead to six. In the bottom half of the third Gavyn Jones belted a three-run homerun, his first of the season over the rightfield wall cutting the lead again, this time to three.

The teams would trade runs the rest of the way, but the Falcons couldn’t quite catch up and ultimately fell by three runs.   The teams combined to hammer out 28 hits and of course 19 runs.

Outfielder Carter Boone arrived in Kelowna on Tuesday night, got the start in rightfield on Wednesday and promptly recorded three hits and scored a run.  Eddie Fines, Ryan Degroot and Dante Vachini each tallied two hits and Jones drove in three, all with one swing of the bat.  All but one Falcons hitter recorded at least one hit.

The Falcons now hit the road for a very long nine-game road trip through Victoria, Nanaimo and Cowlitz before finally returning home on July 16th to meet the NorthPaws again.  That game will be the official makeup game from the rain out on Canada Day.
