Falcons fly over Lefties

The Kelowna Falcons scored early and often in a 7-5 win over the Port Angeles Lefties on Saturday.

The Falcons’ offence benefited from a three RBI night from second baseman Jonas Salk, who recorded two hits and a walk in the contest.

Starting pitcher Troy Shepard was also a key part of the victory, holding the Lefties’ bats to just one run on three hits over five innings of work on the way to earning the win.

The Falcons would score first, making it 1-0 on a Troy Duffield single in the top of the second.

But the Lefties would respond in the bottom half, tying the game on a solo home run off the bat of Chase Taylor.

A two run homer by Jonas Salk in the top of the third would give Kelowna a 3-1 lead.

Salk followed up his home run with an RBI single in the fifth, which would be followed by an error by Port Angeles to give Kelowna a commanding 5-1 lead.

Kelowna would add two more in the sixth on back-to-back RBI groundouts by Duffield and Trevor Wilson to make it 7-1 late in the game.

But the Lefties would show some life in the seventh, with a second home run by Chase Taylor to make it 7-2.

Port Angeles would rally for three more runs in the ninth, however, it was too little too late, and Kelowna would take home their second consecutive 7-5 victory.

The win improves Kelowna’s record to 11-9 on the year.

The Falcons and Lefties will face off in the third and final game of their series on Sunday in Port Angeles.
