Kelowna Falcons

Doubled & Nothin’

Canada Day was not so festive for the Falcons, falling 4-2 in Bend Oregon to the Elks on Tuesday.

In the bottom of the second the Elks got to starter Matthew Moriarty, thanks to a two-run homerun to the number nine batter in the line-up Josh Cushing.

The Falcons offense responded in the top of third, tying the game on an Andrew Godbold RBI single and a Jerod Smith ground out. In his first two games in the line-up, Godbold has three hits and three RBIs.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Elks regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, collecting a two-out RBI single scoring the eventual winning run.

The Elks added an insurance run in the sixth off reliever Aaron Mason (pictured), who pitched great. Mason threw 4.2 innings, allowing the run on four hits and struck out two. Moriarty suffered the loss, lasting 3.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and struck out one.

Offensively the Falcons tallied just four hits, two of them courtesy of Nick Minteer who now has 20 on the season.

The Falcons and Elks will play the series rubber match on Wednesday at 6:35pm. 2-2 Jeremy Alderman gets the start for the Falcons and will face 1-0 righthander Zack Carter.

Friday night the Falcons finally return home to host their rivals, the Wenatchee Applesox at 6:35pm.
