“Buzzing” Falcons

The Kelowna Falcons are pleased to announce the signing of three players from Sacramento State; Ian Dawkins (OF), Ryan Smith (RHP, pictured) and Raul Ortiz (C).

The Falcons open the season on June 2nd

IAN DAWKINS

Played two seasons at Chabot College in Hayward, California and was named all-Coast Conference twice and Northern California all-region in 2014.  He hit .372 with 30 RBIs, 53 runs scored, and seven stolen bases as a freshman.  He led his club to a 32-10 overall record and 21-1 mark in conference play with a 22-game winning streak in 2014.  He helped his team to win the Coast Conference championship, earn a #1 ranking among junior colleges in California, and rank in the top-10 in JCs nationally.  He followed up that season hitting .329 with 23 RBIs, 30 runs, and 12 stolen bases as a sophomore.

His parents are Gordon and Lisa Dawkins and his Grandfather Thomas Dawkins played professional soccer with Rangers F.C. in the Scottish Premiership.  He’s majoring in psychology.

RYAN SMITH

Last season with Sac State he pitched in 12 games in relief, totaling 13.2 innings pitched.  He held batters to 2-for-16 (.125) hitting with two outs, had four scoreless outings and pitched more than one inning in five appearances.  He showed outstanding control, not throwing a wild pitch, nor did he allow a stolen base.  Defensively he had two assists and one putout with no errors.

His parents are Randy and Cathy Smith and is related to Chandler Roselli who plays soccer at Dominican University.  Smith is majoring in communications.

RAUL ORTIZ

Before Sac State he played two seasons for San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California and helped them win the Big 8 Conference championship in 2015.  They collected a 41-7 record in 2015 and 31-13 in 2016.  Ortiz played in 26 games as a sophomore last season and had four RBIs and five runs scored while throwing out four base runners.
His parents are Santos Ortiz and Mayra Medina and his brother Francisco Ortiz was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 18th round of the 2006 MLB draft and pitched three seasons in the Pirates organization.  Ortiz is bilingual and majoring in communications.

These three players join a long list of former Hornets to wear a Falcons uniform.
