The Kelowna Falcons salvaged a win in the three-game series with the Nanaimo NightOwls with a 7-2 victory on Thursday night.

The offence came alive in the third inning, scoring three times on two hits. Trey Duffield, Griffin Palfrey and Sam Flore each drove in a run in the inning, The Flores RBI turned out to be the winning run when he brought home Duffield.

Then in the fourth, Rapheal Smeenk added to the lead with his second homer of the season on a 2-0 count with one-out.

After the NightOwls cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth off starter Amane Kondo (pictured), the Falcons offence went back to work scoring single runs in the final three innings to collect their 25th win of the campaign. Jaxon Byrd came out of the bullpen to throw 3.1 innings and picked up the victory after Kondo finished with a no-decision. Both Duffield and Smeenk finished with multi-hit games, and both drove in a pair of runs.

With the victory, coupled with a Wenatchee Applesox loss, the Falcons move to within two games of the final playoff spot. They now head to Victoria for a massive series with the Harbourcats beginning on Friday night. Just a half game separates these two teams in the standings for the battle for the final playoff spot.
