Saints Marching In

The roster ahead of the 2019 West Coast League season continues to assemble for the Falcons and they have a pair of players from the Mt. Hood Community College Saints as catcher Ezra Samperi (pictured) makes his way back to the Okanagan while bringing in newcomer Tucker Grote this summer.

Samperi returns to the Falcons after joining the team midway through the summer a season ago and having an immediate impact upon his arrival. The Gresham, Oregon native played in 13 games with Kelowna during the 2018 campaign, collecting a home run and 8 RBI’s in 42 at-bats, including a grand slam in his first game with the team. The 5’7”, 155-pound catcher has had an outstanding season at Mt. Hood, leading his team in at-bats (127), doubles (10) and tied for the lead in home runs (3). Samperi has driven in 22 runs so far in his sophomore season while also leading Mt. Hood in walks with 20.

Grote has been a very consistent arm for Mt. Hood, pitching in 16.2 innings all out of the bullpen in relief. The 6’4”, 175-pound hurler leads his squad in saves with 5, sitting tied for 2nd in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) in that department while holding a 1.62 ERA. The Gresham, Oregon product has struck out 21 batters while yielding just 4 walks in 11 appearances and has surrendered just 3 earned runs in that span as well.

The Falcons will open their 2019 season on the road against the Bellingham Bells beginning on Tuesday, June 4th before coming back to Kelowna for their home-opening series to host the newest team in the WCL, the Ridgefield Raptors for a three-game series beginning on Friday, June 7th.
