Spartans Invade

A pair of San Jose State Spartans are set to make the trip north for the summer as right-handed pitcher Jonathan Clark and outfielder/pitcher James Shimashita (pictured) will suit up for the Kelowna Falcons for the 2019 season.

Clark, a San Marcos, California native, is currently in his freshman season in South California where he has pitched in 14 games for the Spartans, seven of those being starts. The 6’0”, 180-pound righty has compiled a 5.37 earned run average in 52 innings pitched to go along with 29 strikeouts and 22 walks. One of the highlights of the young pitchers season came just under a month ago in a complete game victory over New Mexico, throwing 9 innings and allowing just 1 run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts on April 7th.

Another freshman in the class this season for the Spartans is Shimashita, who hails from San Diego, California. The graduate of James Madison high school sits fourth on the team in at-bats with 155 on the season thus far, playing in 44 games and holding a .290 batting average. Shimashita is currently the team leader in runs batted in with 31 on the season while hitting 6 doubles and a home run for the Spartans. The 5;9”, 180-pound outfielder shows patience at the plate, drawing 18 walks on the campaign and also is 5-for-5 when stealing a base.

The Falcons will open the 2019 season on the road against the Bellingham Bells beginning on Tuesday, June 4th before coming back to Kelowna for their home-opening series to host the newest team in the WCL, the Ridgefield Raptors for a three-game series beginning on Friday, June 7th.
