Lake Effect

Saturday night the Kelowna Falcons got back in the win column with a 5-3 victory over the Portland Pickles.

After the Pickles struck for two runs in the top of the first inning off starter Nolan Patterson, the Falcons offense blasted out three runs to take the lead in the bottom half.

Each team scored a single run in the second inning then the pitchers took over. From the third inning on, the two teams combined for just one run, which the Falcons scored in the fifth.

Thrasher Steed picked up his first win of the season striking out three batters over the course of 2.2 innings. Reid Hensley threw the last two innings, struck out three and recorded the save.

The offense collected another 12 hits and have caught fire as of late. Mateo Lake (pictured) blasted his first homer of the season and had two RBIs, Sam Flores was outstanding with three hits and Konner Palmeria added two more.

The Falcons and Pickles will play the series rubber match on Sunday as they meet for the final time this season. It’s also Minor Ball Night. If kids in Kelowna or West Kelowna minor ball wear their team jersey they will receive a complimentary ticket to the game. Tickets are also available online HERE. The gates open at 5:00pm, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm.
