Kelowna Falcons

Extra Inning Magic

The Kelowna Falcons extended their win streak to three after a very odd 4-0 win on Friday in Edmonton over the Riverhawks.

Pitching from both teams dominated through the first nine innings as neither team gave up a run. Falcons starter Griffin Palfrey was brilliant throwing seven scoreless innings, striking out eight and only allowing three hits. Griffin Naess was excellent out of the pen in two innings of work, then Thrasher Steed entered the game in the 10th and faced the minimum picking up the win after the offence finally broke through.

After being shutout through the first nine innings, the Falcons offence woke up in the 10th. Following a lead-off double by Jacob Devenny, Sam Flores would knock him in with a single in what would stand as the game winning hit. Later in the inning Luke Solis added some insurance with a two-run triple scoring Flores and Raphael Smeenk. Solis would score three pitches later thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Garet Crenshaw.

The win is the Falcons 17th on the campaign and third in a row. It’s also the first shut-out of the season.

They will meet the Riverhawks again on Saturday night in Edmonton at 7:05pm. The club returns to Elks Stadium on Friday July 14th to host the Riverhawks as part of a home and home with tickets are available HERE.

Next week the Falcons will host their final Kids Camp of the summer with a two-day session on Wednesday and Thursday at Elks Stadium. Registration is open and all details are located HERE.
