JUNE 30th, 2018

VICTORIA, B.C. – The Kelowna Falcons saw their seven-game win streak come to an end as they gave up a season-high 18 runs in an 18-7 loss to the Victoria HarbourCats on Saturday night at Wilson’s Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.

Dustin Miller had a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, with 8 RBI’s as the HarbourCats offence exploded for 22 hits on the night and handed Kelowna their first loss in seven games with the 18-7 defeat and forced a rubber match in the series finale on Canada Day.

Victoria scored in each of the first four innings of play, getting the scoring going with a three-run first inning before a single run in the 2nd inning pushed Falcons starter Jared Akin out of the game before adding a run in the 3rd frame to take a 5-0 lead after three full innings.

Ryan Fish got the Falcons on the board in the 4th inning with an RBI single to right field off of HarbourCats starter Garrett Goodall to get the Falcons on the board before the HarbourCats offence added to the lead, in a big way.

A three-run home run from Miller followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Nick Plaia pushed the HarbourCats advantage to 10-1 before the Falcons started to claw back with three runs of their own in the 6th inning, including an RBI from Ezra Samperi and an RBI double delivered by Tylor Nixon to make the game a 10-4 Victoria lead.

Another two-run homer, this time from Adam Imwalle in the bottom half of the inning gave Victoria a 12-4 lead before the Falcons countered that with their second straight three-run inning in the 6th as the team traded runs back-and-forth.

Ryan Fish was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home a run before Nixon collected a pair of RBI’s with a two-run infield single for a three-RBI night for the Falcons infielder to get the game to 12-7 but the HarbourCats had another wave of offence to close the game.

In the 8th inning, Victoria sent nine batters to the plate with the big hit being a grand slam off the bat of Miller to complete his 8 RBI night along with a passed ball bringing in a run and an RBI triple from Plaia made the final score 18-7 in favour of the HarbourCats.

Jared Akin took the loss for Kelowna, going two innings while allowing five runs and seven hits while Garrett Goodall got the win for Victoria as Kelowna (13-10) will take on the HarbourCats (11-13) in the series finale on Canada Day at 1:05 PM.
