Recap

The Falcons concluded the regular season on Sunday evening in Walla Walla falling to the Sweets 15-1.

After trailing 2-0 at the end of the first inning the Falcons were unable to muster any offence against Sweets starting pitcher Scott Parker.  As a matter of fact the offence struggled against all three Sweets pitchers they faced recording just three hits.

Taylor Wright collected two of the team’s three hits and scored the lone run on a Matt Voelzke ground out.  Davis Todosichuk had the only other Falcons hit.

The game meant nothing for the Falcons in the standings with the playoffs coming up this week, but for the Sweets it was their final game of the summer.

“There’s no question in my mind that these guys haven’t been looking forward to what we have ahead of us for a month now,” says manager Bryan Donohue. “For us to turn things around the way that we did these last 15 games was a hell of a job and I’m super proud with what they did.  It’s time to hit the reset button and just get after it (playoffs).   I’m so excited to be behind these guys and just find a way to win four more games and do something special no-one can take from us.”

Following the game the Falcons boarded the bus and headed home to prepare for the 2017 West Coast League playoffs.  They will face either the Bellingham Bells or Victoria Harbourcats on Tuesday in Game 1 on the road.  Games 2 and 3 are scheduled for Elks Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday.  The Falcons have home field advantage after winning the WCL’s first half of the season.
