Kelowna Falcons

Falcons Sweep

The Kelowna Falcons (9-6) swept the Yakima Valley Pippins (6-9) to the tune of 8-3. It was the fourth straight win for Kelowna, which is now the longest winning streak of the season for the team.

Kelowna was able to strike first with a pair of runs in both the first and second innings. That made it 4-0 early and the Falcons never looked back.

Head coach Bryan Donohue reflected on his team’s four-game winning streak. He said, “I feel great. We have some good teams in this region and obviously looking at the standings we have to keep up with Bellingham. We’re really looking forward to this series. We’re just playing solid. We had a couple of hiccups defensively early, but our pitcher picked us up. It was just a good team win.”

Donohue was also impressed with his bullpen pitchers. Two of the three who came into the game were making their first appearance as Falcons. He said, “I was impressed with the bullpen who came in and threw strikes and just closed the game out when we had a sizable lead.”

James Brooks was the winning pitcher and threw for six innings. He was followed by Anthony Garcia, Brandon Marklund and Ryan Smith to close out the game.

Donohue was also extremely happy with his team’s offense, which put up eight runs or more for the fourth time this season. He said, “Our plate approach tonight was what it needs to be. It was aggressive and we got some really big hits from Taylor Wright.”

Donohue wasn’t kidding as Wright went 3-3  on the day and had a double, single, four RBI’s and crossed the plate twice to score a pair of runs.

The Falcons will travel to Bellingham for a three-game series with the Bells. First place is up for grabs and the action will start Tuesday night at 6:35 pm.
