Kelowna Falcons

Playoff Bound!

The Kelowna Falcons are playoff bound after a 5-3 win on Monday night over the Yakima Valley Pippins.

With their 17th win the Falcons clinch the North Division’s first half title and will play in the West Coast League’s playoffs in August following the second half of the season.    Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) of the divisional playoff series will be in Kelowna.

On Monday night Falcons’ starter Cal Hehnke was masterful, throwing seven shutout innings, scattering four hits and fanning three batters.   He’s now 4-0.

Offensively the Falcons scored a pair in the fourth inning and tallied three runs in the fifth.  Matt Bottcher was outstanding with three hits and a run scored in four plate appearances.  Ian Dawkins continued his hot hitting with two more base knocks and a pair of RBIs while DJ Daniels also collected two runs batted in.  Jimmy Cubillos added two hits and a run scored in three trips to the plate.

The second half of the season begins on Tuesday night for the Falcons (17-10) when they find themselves back at home to host the only other Canadian franchise in the West Coast League; the Victoria Harbourcats (14-13).  First pitch at Elks Stadium on Tuesday is 6:35pm.  It’s a Toonie Tuesday as all hotdogs and pops are just $2.00 or get a beer for a pair of toonies.
