Coyotes Staying Home

The Falcons will continue to add talent playing in the Okanagan for the summer as returning catcher Jake Fischer and pitcher Wyatt Hummel will be back for the 2019 season while a fresh face in pitcher Chris Wyslobocki comes to the Falcons, all playing their collegiate ball with the Okanagan College Coyotes.

Fischer returns to the Falcons after suiting up in 34 games for Kelowna during the 2018 campaign, where he hit for a .258 batting average in 89 at-bats. The Edmonton, Alberta native earned 23 hits with four of those being doubles as well as a home run while displaying an ability to produce in collecting 18 RBI’s. The 6’1”, 185-pound backstop led the Coyotes with 106 at-bats this season in 28 games, compiling 39 hits for a .368 batting average. Fischer added 9 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs and 32 RBI’s to his tallies this season at OC including a .474 average with a home run and 7 RBI’s in the Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) Championships.

A native of West Kelowna, Hummel had an outstanding season with the Coyotes, getting into 20.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs. The right-hander made three starts while toeing the rubber five times, collecting 22 strikeouts to just 8 walks in the season and earning a 2-1 record with a slim 0.87 earned run average. The 6’2”, 198-pound sophomore held a 1-2 record with the Falcons in 12 appearances last summer with a 4.72 ERA> In 13.1 innings pitched, He struck out 10 batters while walking 12 and allowing 11 hits.

A new face to the Falcons this summer is sophomore righty Chris Wyslobocki, who is also coming off the heels of a terrific season with the Coyotes. The Etobicoke, Ontario native pitched to a 3-0 record in six games this spring, all of those coming as a starter. In 34.1 innings pitched, Wyslobocki held a 1.83 ERA while striking out 41 batters and walked just 20. Wyslobocki threw two shutouts throughout the course of the season and was lights out in the CCBC Championships, going 9 innings while allowing just a run and two hits while striking out 9 batters in a 7-1 victory over the Thompson River Wolfpack on May 11th.

The Falcons will open their 2019 season on the road against the Bellingham Bells beginning on Tuesday, June 4th before coming back to Kelowna for their home-opening series to host the newest team in the WCL, the Ridgefield Raptors for a three-game series beginning on Friday, June 7th.
