Falcons complete sweep

Kelowna Falcons shortstop Gavin Napier scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to complete a 7-6 comeback victory and seal a three game sweep of the Port Angeles Lefties on Sunday.

The Falcons would open up an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Justin Salk in the top of the first.

However, the Leftes would strike for two in the bottom half, scoring on a fielder’s choice and a stolen base by Derek Clifford.

Nate Chong hit a solo shot in the top of the second to tie the game at 2-2, but a fielder’s choice and subsequent two-run double by Barrett Rose would put the Lefties back up by three in the bottom of the third.

Kelowna pulled back within a run the following inning, scoring two runs on a pair of doubles by Garrett Crenshaw and Gavin Napier.

A sacrifice fly off the bat of Kyle Corso would tie the game once again at 5-5 in the top of the fifth.

The Falcons would then re-take the lead on a Jacob Devenney RBI double in the sixth, before the lefties tied the game again with a double of their own by Chase Taylor.

The game remained knotted at 6-6 until the top of the ninth, when a wild pitch by Port Angeles pitcher CJ Lewis allowed Napier to score the go-ahead run.

Reid Hensley would then shut the door in the bottom half, earning his third save of the season and securing the 7-6 win for Kelowna.

Thrasher Steed would earn the win for the Falcons, throwing two shutout innings out of the bullpen.

The Falcons will now return home for a three game set against the Victoria HarboutCats, beginning Monday night at Elks Stadium.
