Kelowna Falcons

Pippins Edge Falcons

The Yakima Valley Pippins scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and would hold off the Falcons offense winning 2-1 on Friday night.

It was the quickest game of the year as the Falcons outhit the Pippins 8-5 in two hours and nine minutes, but still fall for the 31st time this season.

Both runs in the first inning were scored off starter Joel Lamont, who was solid but didn’t get any offensive support.  After the two runs on two hits the Pippins scored in the first, Lamont allowed just three hits over the next six innings of his start.  He also struck out three.

The lone Falcons run came from Ryan Degner as he knocked in Kory Matthews in the top of the sixth inning.  That’s as close as the Falcons would come.

Degner finished with three hits on the night, including a one out double in the top of the ninth and was stranded.  Matthews also finished with three hits.

The Falcons (15-31) will see the Pippins (28-18)again on Saturday night in Yakima Valley.
