Kelowna Falcons

Crunk Walks it off

The Kelowna Falcons found themselves down twice and up once again on Tuesday against the Klamath Falls Gems, but Joey Crunkilton hit a walk-off single in the 9th for a 6-5 victory.

The Gems once again scored in the opening inning, putting two across before Blake Peters got out of a bases-loaded jam.

For the second consecutive night, Kelowna responed and tied the ball game up in the 1st. After great hits and baserunning by both Lane Lacrone and Hunter Villanueva put the Falcons in scoring position, Justin Flores scored one on a groundout, and Max Carter picked up the other with an RBI single.

The Falcons would go out in front 4-2 in the 4th after the sun caused havoc on a ball thrown back into the infield, putting runners again on 2nd and 3rd. Vinny Esposito picked up an RBI and Josh Egan scored on another error to give Kelowna a lead.

Cue the Gems again. A 3-run 5th put Klamath Falls ahead, as a Villanueva error and a wild pitch lead the Gems around the bases. Jimmy Doyle would get out of the inning with a strikeout.

That was just the beginning for Doyle, as he went 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a single hit. He had set down 10 straight gems at one point, a night after his Holy Names University teammate Jayse Bannister went 4 scoreless.

Justin Flores tied the ballgame up in the 7th with an RBI double.

In the 9th, it would be Andre Jackson who had the leadoff single, followed by a Villanueva walk and a flyout that both runners tagged and advanced on.

Carter was intentionally walked before Crunkilton hit a 1-1 curveball to the wall in center which scored the winning run. He would take a gatorade cooler and numerous cups of water over the head as he was mobbed by his teammates. (VIDEO)
